Mahmoud Reda - Pioneer of Egyptian Theatre Dance

The legendary Mahmoud Reda, pioneer of Egyptian dance theatre, is the most important figure in the history of Egyptian Arts and Cultural Studies. He was the founder and the choreographer of the first Egyptian theatre dance company 'The Reda Troupe' in 1959. In 2009, Mahmoud will be celebrating his 50th Golden Jubilee! Thanks to a life time of dedication, studies, creativity, persistance and talent, historical dance forms have been preserved which may have otherwise been lost.

Mahmoud Reda is universally acclaimed for his dance choreographies for stage and cinema. Soloist, choreographer and director of hundreds of productions, Mahmoud Reda has toured in more than 60 countries, performing on the world's most prestigious stages. He has also been principal actor, dancer and choreographer in popular Egyptian films. He performed on the world's most prestigious stages such as Carnegie Hall (New York, USA), Royal Albert Hall (London, UK), Congress Hall (Berlin, Germany), Stanislavsky & Gorky Theaters (Moscow, USSR), Olympia (Paris, France) and the United Nations (New York & Geneva). The Reda Troupe has performed for many world leaders, honoraries and Heads of states.

A National icon, Mahmoud is celebrated and deeply respected by fellow Egyptians, leading Egyptian cinema directors and cultural dance enthusuasts globally. Recently, to celebrate his 75th birthday in 2005, Spanish dancer Nesma orchestarted a tribute in his honor - 'A Life for Dancing', featuring performances of his life's work by dancers from Spain, Finland, France, Italy and Switzerland (see dvd below). Following this specatular event, in July 2007/2008 his world famous folkloric style dances were performed by dance troupes from around the world, for an international audience of over 4500 guests at the grand Alexandria Library, Egypt.
